Starfield is another massive RPG from Bethesda that encourages you to explore, complete quests, build outposts and do many other time-consuming activities. In this guide, we try to answer the question of how long it takes to complete Starfield and how activities not related to the main plot can extend the game.

How long is the main storyline?

  1. On average, it should take you around 30-40 hours to complete the main storyline of the game. In the game, you won't find artificial barriers to advance to the next quests too quickly, but you can encounter opponents from higher levels. Level 35 opponents appear in the campaign finale. You should reach approximately this level before proceeding to the final missions.
  2. To complete the storyline and unlock the main ending, you need to complete 17 main missions. It may not seem a lot, but the main quests in the game can be very long. For instance, the first main mission of the game includes the entire prologue, creator, exploration of the first moon, first visit to New Atlantis and reaching the Lodge.

Galaxy exploration and optional content

  1. In Starfield, you can mostly do side quests and faction quests. There are actually quite a few in the game and some side quests can be slightly bigger. Side quests can extend the game even by several dozen hours.
  2. You can spend a lot of time exploring systems and their planets and moons. Unfortunately, in this case, you may encounter a lot of repetitive content, e.g. outposts with the same room layout. However, the motivation for exploring planets can be to gather loot and conduct research, which you can later sell. There are secrets and collectibles in Starfield. In particular, finding warehouses with stat bonuses can be very time-consuming. They come in various versions with different bonuses.
  3. In the game, you can find advanced crafting, as well as mechanics related to building outposts and modifying ships. You can spend a lot of time with each of these modules. However, a lot depends on whether you are interested in creating your own outposts, ships or items. You can also rely on pre-made elements in the game.
  4. To sum up, if you want to complete all the tasks (not counting the randomly generated ones), Starfield can take you about 80 hours. Wanting to get to know the game very thoroughly means crossing the barrier of 100 hours.
