UPDATE #3: In the course of a private investigation conducted by the editors of VGC more information has come to light about Hyenas. According to the journalists' sources, the shooter was Sega's most expensive game ever, but the chaos that reigned during its development, the mid-work switch to another engine and "overly cautious design" led to the title's cancellation.

The editors asked Sega for comment on the matter, but so far have not received a response.

UPDATE #2: Studio confirmed that the cancellation of work on Hyenas may lead to layoffs. However, the developer will do everything possible to ensure that as few employees as possible will be affected, such as transferring them to other branches of the team.

UPDATE: According to information that journalists managed to obtain from IGN, Creative Assembly is on the verge of huge cuts, which could lead to the dismissal of many employees. Interestingly, sources close to the studio report that employees of the company learned about the cancellation of Hyenas from SEGA's announcement.

If you have been sharpening your teeth for Hyenas, then you can put the files away now. SEGA Sammy announced the decision to cancel work on Creative Assembly's network FPS. The title went into the trash along with several other yet unannounced projects. The main reason for the decision is the "lower profitability" of the company's games in Europe..

"In response to the lower profitability in the European region, we have reviewed the catalog of titles of each developer base in Europe. The result is the cancellation of Hyenas and some unannounced titles in development," reads an excerpt from SEGA Sammy's announcement.

At the same time, the company announced that it will reduce the fixed costs Creative Assembly incurs in Europe.

"We will implement a reduction in various fixed costs at several group companies in the region, focusing on Creative Assembly Ltd. We expect to incur one-time expenses related to the reduction of fixed costs," it further read.

SEGA Sammy also assured that the company "will consider further treatments to improve profitability in the European region."

Recall that Hyenas, announced last June, was a network shooter, focusing on competition between several teams for loot. Participants of the game were to fight each other in 0 gravity, while protecting a huge ship. The release of the game was planned for this year. The title was to hit PC and Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles.
