In Starfield, you may encounter a problem with not having structural components in the inventory necessary for expanding outposts or crafting. This page explains how to find structural components by examining planets.

An example planet for searching for structural components

1. Structural objects are a rarer type of crafting materials. You can't just buy them. You must obtain them by exploring the world, and more specifically, by researching planets.
2. A good example of a planet for collecting structural objects is Cassiopeia I located in the Eta Cassiopeia system. You don't have to land at one of the markers. You can choose any point on the planet's surface and the game will generate a random environment for exploration.

Obtaining components from the planets' fauna and flora

1. After landing on the planet, activate the hand scanner and start exploring. Search for interactive flora (plants) and fauna (aggressive or neutral wildlife).
2. In the case of flora, scan the plants and look for a message that a given resource is structural - an example is in the image above.

1. Fauna may be a bit more difficult, because structural objects may be dropped by hostile creatures. You must first defeat them - remember to always fight those that won't be too difficult for you (i.e. its level isn't much higher than yours).
2. After the fight, examine the carcasses of wild animals. There may be a structural object among the loot - in our example it was a bone.
