Witchfire Devs Consider Delaying First Major Update Due to Christmas Sales

September saw the early access debut of Witchfire, a first-person shooter from The Astronauts. Now the developers have announced that the first major update for the game, offering, among other things, two new maps, may come later than announced.

1. According to the original plan, this patch (for now called GGU) was to debut at the end of November, but the developers warned from the start that it could be delayed until December.
2. The delay proved necessary as the scale of the update was increased. However, now the devs are not at all sure that December will bring the release of the patch. This time it is not due to the need for additional time to complete the patch. Instead, The Astronauts is concerned that GGU will be completely overshadowed by the winter sales.
3. As the developers explain, at the time they plan to release the update, both Steam and Epic Games Store will be in the midst of the winter sales, which are the biggest of the year. Releasing a new game during this period dooms it to failure, and the studio is considering whether this will also bury the update.
4. A final decision has not yet been made. The developers working on the game are industry veterans, but Witchfire is their first game released in early access, so they don't know whether releasing a major update during the winter sales is a good or bad idea. That's why they will devote the next few weeks to analyzing the situation and are asking for feedback from the players.

Recall that Witchfire went on sale in Early Access on September 20, this year. The Early Access phase will be carried out only on PC, later the game is expected to hit other hardware platforms. Currently, the game is available exclusively on Epic Games Store.
