Lingering Despair is an optional boss that you can reach after entering Umbral. He is a durable opponent with a repeatable attack pattern. In our guide, we describe how to defeat him and what items you will receive for killing him.

Lingering Despair in a nutshell

1. The boss's face is armored, it can only be attacked when the armor is open. When it's closed, focus on attacking his back.
2. The face of Lingering Despair can be opened with Soulflay. If it is open and you use this ability, you will be able to perform a critical hit.
3. AS the boss applies the frostbite status, equip armor that provides good protection against this debuff. If its status bar is full, your endurance will drop to 50%.
4. Don't destroy the roots with Soulflay, because then you will additionally have to fight other enemies in the arena.
5. If you are low on health, siphon health from nearby buildings emanating blue light. Thanks to this, you will restore your depleting health.

How to fight Lingering Despair?

Once the battle begins, Lingering Despair will mainly jump backwards or forwards, each time creating a shockwave that applies Frostbite. This is how the fight will look like for most of the time.

1. Lingering Despair's jump,
2. Landing folowed by an explosion in a small area,
3. Dodging while the boss is landing and moving behind his back,
4. Attack the boss and repeat everything from step one.

Occasionally, Lingering Despair will not jump. It can then attack with its head or simply charge you. Again, as in the previous case, it will create a small explosion.

From time to time, the boss will open his head, revealing his weak spot. When he does it, he gains access to new attacks. One of them is the firing of an Umbral projectile that follows the player.

The most dangerous is the scattered shot of projectiles, which turn into crawling larvae after hitting the ground. They are slow, but touching them will cause an explosion that deals a lot of damage. If you notice them, dodge towards them as quickly as possible. The explosion will not damage you and will clear the arena of danger.

After some time, the boss will close his face, so frontal attacks will once again have no effect on him. However, be careful when the closing sequence itself takes place, because if you are close to the boss, you will take a lot of damage.
