1 - Alan Wake 2: Can you turn off jumpscares? - FAQ - Alan Wake 2 Guide
  1. In Alan Wake 2 you can experience jumpscares. These are sudden flashes in which taken characters appear and these types of scenes try to scare the player and intentionally cause discomfort. Flashes can primarily feature Scratch (a dark version of the eponymous writer) and the Taken from Bright Falls.
  2. The problem is particularly important for players with limited tolerance to this type of scenes, who would like to experience the plot of Alan Wake 2 after completing the much less scary first installment of the series. Flashes can also be potentially dangerous for people with epilepsy, and unfortunately, in AW2, such players will not find accessibility options designed for them.
  3. In the game's options, unfortunately, there is no setting to disable jumpscares completely or display warnings about them. One can assume that the developers wanted to keep the player in uncertainty and preserve the survival horror atmosphere.
  4. The only thing that might make it easier is that most of the flashes appear at specific points in the plot. They occur most often when you are hunting the "main" taken characters who are the bosses. Expect to be jumpscared, for example, while solving the riddles from the Overlaps opening in a given location or searching for the taken after passing through the portal.
