Both heroes you control in Alan Wake 2 have access to an extended arsenal of firearms and throwables. On this page, you can find a list of all weapons appearing in the game along with information on where to find them and recommended picks for specific situations.

Flashlight

  1. The flashlight is a tool available to both Saga and Alan, but in the case of the writer, you first need to find it.
  2. Flashlight is not only used to illuminate dark areas, as it also has an use in combat. For example, you can use Flashlight Boosting to deprive monsters of their layer of darkness. This reveals the sources of darkness and makes them vulnerable to conventional attacks.
  3. Basic using of flashlight doesn't spend any resources, but Flashlight Boosting depletes the batteries. Single battery has a few charges. To get more batteries, you'll need to explore and find them in the world.

Pistol

  1. This is part of Saga's kit as an FBI agent. She has it from the very beginning of the game.
  2. Unmodified and in its basic version, the pistol isn't very powerful. You can change that with weapon upgrades and additionally always make sure to aim for the head.

Sawed-off Shotgun

  1. Sawed-off Shotgun is a weapon available to Saga.
  2. You'll come across it in a display case in the General Store in Cauldron Lake. The earliest you can obtain it is during Return 2 chapter. We show how to get it on Shotgun display case page of the guide.
  3. The Sawed-off Shotgun is perfect for close-range combat. Leave it for stronger enemies or groups of opponents standing close to each other.

Hunting Crossbow

  1. Hunting Crossbow is another weapon unique to Saga.
  2. You can find it in a Cult Stash in Watery, located near the trapper hut. First opportunity to get it appears during the first visit to Watery in Return 3. We show how to get the weapon on the Stash with hunting crossbow page of the guide.
  3. The Crossbow is perfect for silent removal of enemies, as, unlike firearms, it doesn't generate noise when fired. The projectile deals a lot of damage, but reloading takes time.

Hunting Rifle

  1. Another weapon unique to Saga.
  2. The rifle is found in one of the locked rooms in Wellness Center building, which is visited during Return 5 chapter. To unlock the room, you need to deliver the missing door knob.

Pump-Action Shotgun

  1. Pump-Action Shotgun is another weapon unique to Saga.
  2. You can find it after returning to the Sheriff's Station in Bright Falls in the course of Return 6 chapter. To get it, you need to open Sheriff Tim Breaker's office and break into the weapon case.

Revolver

  1. The Revolver is the first weapon obtained by Alan.
  2. After the beginning of Initiation 2 chapter, you'll explore the western alley in New York (Dark Place). The Revolver is found in the area where you meet Alex Casey for the second time. We describe the procedure of acquiring the weapon in How to get the gun and flashlight? page of the guide.
  3. The Revolver is mediocre when it comes to stoppping power. You can change that with weapon upgrades and additionally always make sure to aim for the head.

Flare Gun

  1. Flare Gun is a weapon that only Alan can obtain.
  2. Getting the Flare Gun is a story event and you cannot go forward without it. This happens during the course of Initiation 4 chapter.

Double-Barreled Shotgun

  1. Double-Barreled Shotgun is a weapon only obtainable by Alan.
  2. The first (but not the only) opportunity to get it appears in Initiation 4 chapter, and progressing further in the story is possible without it. The second opportunity appears in Initiation 5 chapter, and in this case it will be in Rooftop Bar.

Hand Flare

  1. Hand Flare is an example of a throwable, but you can just as well hold it in your hand to light the way.
  2. Flares have two main uses - prevent monsters from getting closer to the hero and freeing yourself after being grabbed by an opponent. We recommend leaving some flares for the latter. With the Flare, you can avoid losing health as a result of being grabbed.

Propane Tank

  1. Propane Tanks are another example of a throwable.
  2. Tanks are perfect for defeating groups of opponents and weakening bosses. The tank will explode on impact, dealing a lot of damage - it even may kill the enemy instantly.

  1. Flashbangs belong to the category of throwables.
