During the Return chapters in Alan Wake 2, you may encounter locked gates that cannot be opened with standard keys or by any other means. On this page of our guide, we show how and where to obtain Bolt Cutters and how to use this gadget to unlock new passages (e.g. near the rental cabins in Cauldron Lake)

Bolt Cutter puzzle in Wellness Center

1. Unfortunately, the described gadget for Saga Anderson is obtained later in Return 5. During this chapter, Saga will visit a Wellness Center in Bright Falls.
2. In the mentioned location, you'll need to complete a mandatory puzzle involving opening the Overlap. The portal may appear in the place of the pond before the building.

1. You need to explore Overlap until you reach a tool cabinet from the screenshot. The sought gadget is inside, but you will need a key to open the cabinet.

1. Pull the first lever next to the cabinet. Every such action will change the layout of the rooms, unlocking new investigation areas or new items to take.
2. Go to the neighboring room which opened with the pull of the lever. Inside, you'll find a second lever - pull it.

1. There will be new furniture appearing in the room. Locate the desk drawer marked in screenshot 1. The key you need is inside. Light the way with your flashlight, as this part of the room is completely dark.

1. Get back to the first lever. Pulling it will cause the cabinet with the Bolt Cutters to appear again.
2. Use the obtained key on the cabinet. Bolt Cutters will be added to your inventory.

1. The new gadget will come in handy right away in solving the puzzle in which you unlock the way out.
2. Pull the first lever, go to the second room and pull the second lever. This will cause a gate to appear on the right - we show it in the screenshot. Use the Bolt Cutters on the gate.

How to use the Bolt Cutters?

1. You can find places to use the Bolt Cutters by interacting with environment. These are fasteners that have to be cut and using firearms on them doesn't have any effect. During each interaction, you need to choose Bolt Cutters from the list of carried quest items.
2. Blocked Passages that need Bolt Cutters are marked on the map with a padlock icon and an X (example in the screenshot 1). Make sure to return to previously encountered locked gates. These were found e.g. during initial chapters where you've explored Cauldron Lake (e.g. rental cabins area) and Bright Falls. You surely encountered some gates there that you couldn't open earlier.
