Aliens Dark Descent allows you to use various futuristic weapons, and among them is the M56 Smart Gun, known from the Alien movies. On this page, we explain what are the requirements to unlock the Smart Gun and how to assign the Gunner class to one of your marines.

Smart Gun on the weapons list

M56 Smart Gun is a heavy rifle and one of the iconic weapons from the Alien universe, which debuted in the movie Aliens. The game model works identically to the one in the movie, so it comes with a head-mounted targeting system, offering both great versatility and the ability to shoot in bursts.

You can't use the Smart Gun from the very beginning of the campaign, but fortunately you don't have to wait until its final part to obtain it.

How to unlock the Gunner class?

Smart Gun can only be used by marines of the Gunner class. The marines start as Rookies and this weapon is locked for them.

Take the marines on more missions so they can gather XP and level up. After getting enough experience, you will be able to level up that character to level 3. Then a class selection window will appear. The game will offer 2 classes out of 5 possible options. You have to wait until the Gunner class appears and then choose it for the specific marine.

Unlocking the Smart Gun

While at the base, visit the Workshop where you can buy new weapons and gadgets. Smart Gun is one of the main weapons. Find it on the list on the left side of the screen. To purchase it, you need 100 materials, which you can find in missions as loot. Fortunately, you only need to purchase the Smart Gun once, not separately for each soldier who would use it later.

Setting the Smart Gun as the active weapon

Go to the Barracks and choose a Gunner. On the soldier's screen, click on the main weapon icon in the lower left corner of the screen (image above).

The main weapon selection screen will open. Choose the Smart Gun and ignore the red message below its name, because you should meet the requirements to use it.

On the mission preparation screen, select the Gunner and they should be carrying the Smart Gun. The weapon's icon will also appear under the character. You can now use the Smart Gun on your future expeditions.
