Zelda Devs on Possible Expansion; Surprising Response

Nintendo has confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will not receive any expansions. A sequel, however, is not out of the question.

I bring bad news for all fans of The Legend of Zelda series, who were hoping that its latest installment, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, will receive a story expansion. In an interview with Famitsu the game's producer, Eiji Aonuma, announced that no expansion is in the plans:

"At the moment there are no plans to release additional content... I feel I have done my best to create games set in this world [Hyrule - ed. note]."

Does this mean that Nintendo has already started work on the next game in the series? While this can't be ruled out, of course, Aonuma suggests that nothing of the sort has happened for now:

"If we find a new reason for it, we will certainly return to this world. Whether it will be a continuation [of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - editor's note] or a completely new game, I think it will offer completely different gameplay, so I would be happy if you can wait for it."

Although Nintendo's decision may seem a bit surprising - after all The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild eventually received two expansions: Master Trials and Champions' Ballad - it seems doubtful that it will affect the opinion of journalists and gamers on The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. It can be expected that the game will compete for the title of game of the year at The Game Awards 2023. Nevertheless, the competition is extremely strong - I am referring to both the sensational Baldur's Gate III, as well as many other potentially great positions, which will be released by December.
