'If That's the Case, I Won't Buy It'; Steam's Most Anticipated Shooter Criticized Ahead of Release

You already know that PayDay 3 - a co-op-oriented shooter from Starbreeze, which is the most highly anticipated representative of the genre according to Steam users - will lack an offline mode. As expected, a large part of players were furious at this news.

In this thread on Reddit the community gave vent to its frustration. Some of its members are calling for a "wallet vote" - i.e. canceling preorders or simply not buying the game. This would be to make the developers rethink the decision and - perhaps - implement an offline mode.

Fans cannot stomach that PayDay 3 will require a constant connection to the network for fear of server problems, through which they would inevitably be disconnected during play or unable to log into the game. Of course, the fact that not every player has unlimited high-speed Internet is not insignificant.

Above all, however community "does not buy" the explanations from the developers, arguing that maintaining a constant connection to the network is necessary due to the use of Unreal Engine 5 and the desire to provide features such as cross-play or cross-save.

The statements of the players reveal a clear, very specific message - they want to get an offline mode, even if the game was to lack the aforementioned features. As an argument, many of them cite the fact that PayDay 2 was played mostly solo, at most downloading modifications from the web.

While not unreasonable, this protest may bring as much as complaints of Diablo IV players, which also will not run without the Internet, and yet is played by millions. Although some PayDay 3 fans assure that they have already canceled preorders, and others that they will hold off on purchasing the game for at least a few months, but it is difficult to say how large a percentage of the community we are dealing with.

Premiere of PayDay 3 has been scheduled for September 21, 2023. The title is heading for PC, PS5 and XSX/S. At tje same time, it will also be available on PC/Xbox Game Pass.
