Minsc is one of the possible companions in BG3. The human Ranger and his little companion, Boo, return in act 2 of the game. On this page, we have described when you can add Minsc to your party and what skills and abilities he has.
Who is Minsc?
Minsc, or rather Minsc and Boo, are known from the first Baldur's Gate from 1998. Minsc could be recruited to your party in chapter 2 and you could help him find his friend, Dynaheir. Minsc and Dynaheir come from a distant land called Rashemen, also known as the land of Berserkers.
Minsc returns as a companion at the beginning of Baldur's Gate 2: The Shadows of Amn from 2000. In the first act, your character meets Minsc and Jaheira in the dungeons of Irenicus, the main antagonist of the game. Dynaheir was killed by Jon Irenicus' henchmen, and Minsc vowed revenge on the mage.
Minsc is a human Ranger with a Berserker skill. When he goes into a frenzy, he gains 2 points to Strength and Dexterity and becomes immune to charm, disorientation, fear, feeblemindedness, stun, and sleep. He also gains extra 15 hit points.
His most powerful weapon, as Minsc himself claims, is the hamster Boo. According to Minsc, Boo is actually a gigantic, cosmic hamster with enormous intelligence, possessing the ability to speak, although only Minsc can understand him.
How to recruit Minsc as a companion in BG3?
After the events of Baldur's Gate 2, Minsc returned to Rashamen and formed his own party of adventurers. Minsc disappeared in mysterious circumstances during one of his journeys.
About 125 years pass between the events of Baldur's Gate 2 and Baldur's Gate 3. Since Minsc is a human, couldn't possibly survive that many years.
The latest game trailer reveals that Minsc has been captured by a cult, but it is unclear who exactly granted him longevity. Minsc will most likely be an optional companion starting from act 2.
