In Alan Wake 2, one of the first new weapons to find is a sawed-off shotgun from the General store in Cauldron Lake. The description in our guide explains how Saga can obtain this weapon by solving the puzzle with the display case and the padlock.

Reaching the display case at Cauldron Lake

1. You can obtain this weapon only during your second visit to Cauldron Lake as Saga. This takes place after the start of Return 2 - The Heart.
2. On your second visit, you'll receive the mission objective to find Nightingale's heart in the General store. Once you get there, a Taken cultist will break through the wall and you must defeat him. After winning the fight, you can go through the hole in the wall and avoid the problem of opening the closed door of the store.

1. A display case containing a sawed-off shotgun hangs on the southern wall of the building. You can't break it. Instead, you must determine the three-digit combination needed to open the padlock.

Determining the combination to open the padlock

1. There is a note next to the padlock with a clue, and it suggests exploring the area around the cash register. Go to the western part of the store, and once you reach the counter, take a look at the items beside the cash register.

1. You'll find there 2 clues shown in the pictures above. These are: a note with the codes and a lottery ticket.
2. From the note, you'll learn about the codes already used, and from the lottery ticket, you'll learn about the winning numbers. You have to combine this knowledge - the first digit of the code from the note (in our example 7) and the first unused number from the lottery ticket (in our example 39). This means that the code was 739 in our case, although there is a risk that this code might be random.

1. Return to the display case, hover over the padlock and select the correct numbers from the combination starting from the top.
2. The display case will open. You can take the sawed-off shotgun, but you must have 2 free slots in your inventory for this gun.
