Aliens Dark Descent is another game, the plot of which is set in the Alien universe. The question arises - do you have to watch all the xenomorph movies before playing Dark Descent? You will also find out if the events in the game are related to those from the movies or other game productions, such as Alien Isolation.
Movies
The plot presented in Aliens Dark Descent takes place after the events of the first three movies which are - Alien, Aliens, and Alien³. This trilogy is generally considered by fans of the Alen to be the most important and canonical.
The game does not refer in any clear way to the movies. Watching them before starting the game can introduce you to the world of the Alien or bring you back its atmosphere. Many elements from the game (e.g. Weyland-Yutani Corporation, Smart Gun, machine and vehicle designs will we familiar thanks to this.
Playing the game, you will not meet any characters from the movies, including Ripley, who is dead after the events of Alien 3 (and before the events of Alien 4). In the game, there are completely new heroes and the two most important characters in the game are:
- Female admin Maeko Hayes employed by Weyland-Yutani Corporation.
- Sergeant Jonas Harper , one of the marines stationing on board the spaceship USS Otago.
In the campaign, you can encounter known necromorphs varietes, but also new types of enemies, including hostile Weyland-Yutani employees.
The story presented in the game focuses on the Lethe moon, which is a completely new location in the Alien universe. However, the look of the colony may bring to mind similar locations from the Alien 2 movie.
Other games
The Aliens Dark Descent's plot in no way refers to other games from the Alien universe, including the famous Alien Isolation. This is a standalone story, which you can fully experience even if you didn't played any other games featuring xenomorphs.
